Which JLPT do you want to take? I personally haven't had real classes since I was 16 (and on JLPT 4-kyuu, now N5 level), and while people who have been taking classes might know more words, I feel their Japanese sounds really artificial at times, especially if they haven't been living in Japan for some time.
