I've been heavily conditioning my hair these days. I wake up, add conditioner, put on a heat cap, then toss on a wig so that I can leave the conditioner in as long as possible. Pretty soon, I'll have to chemically straighten my hair again, so I'm trying to strengthen my hair as much as possible until then. Surprisingly, a lot of people don't even realize I'm wearing a wig. I've also had people ask me what brand of fake eye-lashes I use, but in reality, I don't use fake lashes at all. Mine are just naturally long and thick.

Less than a month until I meet up with my sempai and old classmates in Yokohama, so I'm really thinking about what kind of image I want to meet them in. I was known for being the always-on-the-move-party girl who mostly associated with those of the B系 fashion style. I still want to maintain that image but I want to do it in a way that still shoes I've matured. Basically, I'm swapping in the American "thug-style" I used to wear back then for a more...taylored B系 image. And so far, my absolute musts are:

What kind of style do you follow? Have you changed your style recently?
It seems like lately all I think about is fashion. That's because for the first time in a long time, even though I don't feel 100% pleased with the way I look now, I don't feel like I'm hideous. I'm finally starting to understand what does and doesn't suit me, and what kind of person I want to become. They say looks aren't everything, but I think we can all agree that looks play an important part in how we're treated and what doors open for us.
Which leads to my next announcement:
I received two meishi over the past couple of days. One from a man who works for a project managment company in Tokyo, and the other from a man who works for a publishing company in Yokohama. Both told me to contact them if I ever considered making the move from Kansai to Kantou.  I'll try to visit both companies next month.

This wig looks great on you, that's so natural, it took me some time to realize what was the difference between the two pictures :D
Your style is simple and class to me, you don't need more, it's enough and the most important is that you feel confortable enough in your clothes -^ ^- the juicy couture perfume smells so goooood ~ ♥ you have great tastes ♥

It does smell good! To tell the truth, my friend bought it for me when we went to New York. He smelled it and he said "This is Zia!" I didn't like it at first, but I like it now.

I haven't used it but twice. Unfortunately, the bottle opened and spilled a lot out =(

I don't any particular type of style, which really bugs people which i find funny lol they try and put me in boxes, but its never the same box. I get told it's chavvy, then goth then emo then glam, indie nerd, bohemian, country lady, rockabilly, 60s chic, grunge, urban, etc. when in truth it's literally whatever i like.

I really really love the more classic style but it doesn't suit me at all. I've learned over the years that it's definitely the simple b-boy fashion that matches me best. Is it because I'm Spanish? Who knows.

I think it's easier to shop when you have a particular style though.

Now that it is considerably cooler here, I quite possibly will be following a similar regimen as you with my own hair (mostly to keep me from cutting it again and to use less heat styling). I've dyed it quite a bit, so I think it could use the extra care.

I've never consciously followed a style but if I am to take what people say to heart then my style has changed. Before I was told that my style was reminiscent of the "gangster style" but now I often am told that I look more "rock," "hippie," or "chic" and I'm still not too sure what they meant by the last two.

My hair has gotten so much better since I've started doing this. It really does help =) I've never done conditioning for such a long time but the wig allows you to do it without forcing you to cancel other things to take the time to do it.

I'm always told that I'm a casual b-boy style. I really like the classic feminine look, though it doesn't suit me at all. I don't think people have to follow certain groups, but it is important to know what suits you!

Thanks! I really like looking decent, but in all honesty, I'm too lazy to go to a spa or salon every two weeks.

A girls life is so hard!

wow, who knew that attending lectures actually did have a point. I actually know what "meishi" means from my 1st semester~~~~ 8D good luck with both of the companies~~~~!!!

as sad as it is, but looks are important in this society. They say that what's inside that matters, but the truth is, if people don't like what's outside, they won't even bother to look what is inside :/
but am really happy to hear that you are pleased with the way you look~ That is something i am always envious in people, so don't ever loose that love for yourself ;D

Exactly! It took me so long to realize that! Before I used to always say "Well, if they are going to like me, they are going to like me for who I am!" But if my outsides aren't appealing, they won't dare approach to get to know me in the first place.

It's so sad....

But sometimes self confidence can make you so beautiful too.

true that :/ what sucks are the standards of beauty we get from TV and magazines. Make-up, photoshop, special effects... Society believes it, and then all have to suffer without realizing that all is not real and can never be.

agree on that! to me personally, a standard of beauty in a man or a woman is his/her self-confidence. If they are confident with themselves in what they are doing - HOLY FISH MARRY ME PLEASE 8D

look isn't everything, but if you feel pretty and have outfit give you confident then it can be everything!!
I love your red jacket <33333 christmas >3<
For me fashion is not that important, I'm more into useful style or whatever , but slowly I try to find my own style. It's not easy because I've always love few quite oppositi things/styles.

I didn't realize that was a wig when I first look at the photo!!! It looks so natural! You look so cute with that hair style ♥!

Maybe is because japanese people don't have natural big eyelashes... maybe that's why they think yours are fake =/!

Viva La Juicy ♥!!!!
Loved that red coat ♥!

What kind of style do you follow? Have you changed your style recently?
I liked gyaru when I was on high school. But I "graduated" to onee... Well, I am a oneegyaru in training because I will never look as stylist as those japanese girls and I cannot afford the brands they wear xDDDD! I also love mode fashion =)
I believe fashion is a way of expressing who we are without actually talking... Things "talk" so does clothes...
Agree, as we grow up, we change they way we dress. Maybe because we see things we different eyes than we used to...

Thanks! That's true...they always ask me what brand and I just say "My mom" or something. My sister and brother have long eye-lashes too. I guess we're lucky.

I think normally, you're supposed to graduate from freestyle and hime gyaru once you turn I think 24 or 25 but I still see a lot of older foreign girls practice it up until their 30's. I think it's a bit weird though, and oneeguary is definitely more appropriate!

Fashion is definitely a way of expressing yourself, I think. But if the way you express yourself doesn't suit you, it causes problems, I feel.

The two of them are wigs? I think the one without the watermark looks a little more natural on you but you look great in both :D. I can't really tell what my style is tbh, but I do agree that fashion is definitely a way to express ourselves. I try to buy w/e I think looks better on me :D
Best of luck visiting those companies!

Yep! Both are wigs! The one without the watermark looks more natural because it's my exact hair color =)

I'm horrible when it comes to deciding what to wear and how to wear them. If it weren't for magazines, I'd be running around in a potato sack, I'm sure. So it helps to know what styles I want so that I can buy the appropriate magazines. Magazines in the US feature a variety of styles, but it feels like each Japanese magazine is for a specific style.

"An ugly duckling growing out of her feathers."

Hello. I'm Zia, and this is most obviously my journal. I write about my life between Japan and the US, and all the adventures I find myself in. People often say they are envious of the life I seem to live, but the truth is, I feel a little unsatisfied with it myself, so I've decided to do something about it--to find what really makes me happy. Hopefully by documenting my life, I can figure out where I need to be heading. This journal is my way of opening my world to those around me in hopes of meeting people searching for the same thing or encountering people who have already gone through this kind of struggle.

Back in my high school days, I used to be a bit of a nerd. I was really in to comic books of all kinds, action figures...all that jazz.  These days, though my interest in comic books re-surfaces every so often, I'm very much more in to things like fashion, dance, music, travel, tea, baking, writing letters, photography, animals and fitness. I'm a straight shooter--meaning I do not (or rather, can not?) lie. Keeping up with lies is too much trouble.

Anyway, there is more information about me on my profile. Feel free to take a look there or catch me on another site★
